UK Unemployment Rate Falls Unexpectedly
Key Economic News from the UK and France Due
Experts had forecast a rise, but the jobless rate actually fell by 0.2 percentage points to 4.2% in the three months to June
Those polled by news agency Reuters expected a rise to 4.5%, up from the 4.4% recorded a month earlier.
The fall in unemployment is likely to be welcomed by the Bank of England, which is trying to cool the economy and bring down inflation.
However, it is unclear whether the fall in unemployment will be enough to deter the Bank from raising interest rates again at its next meeting in September.
In other economic news from the UK, revised consumer prices for July are due on Tuesday.
In France, unemployment data for July is also due on Tuesday.
